The Student Christian Movement

SCM is a movement seeking to bring together students of all denominations to explore the Christian faith in an open-minded and non-judgemental environment.

Since 1889 the Student Christian Movement has been bringing students together to explore how to live out a radical faith in today’s world.

SCM is not just a British organisation but is present and active throughout the world. Sri Lanka, Germany, Rwanda, El Salvador, Australia (the list goes on...) are all countries with SCM's.

The World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) is the international body that brings all of these regional movements together. British SCM is one of the 100 movements affiliated to WSCF.

The WSCF provides a meeting place for students across boundaries of culture, race and religion; it calls students to live out the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, "to bring them into fellowship with one another in mutual service, to strive for peace and justice in and among nations, to work for the manifestation of the unity of the church, to be servants and messengers of God's kingdom in all the world."

Movement magazine

Movement is the magazine produced by SCM for students, SCM members and anyone else who wants a lively and accessible coverage of current issues in theology, politics, student life, the arts and popular culture. The magazine comes out three times a year and attracts a diverse readership.

Contributors range from students and chaplains to more well-known names such as Kathy Galloway and Jim Cotter.

The Chaplaincy is an affilate member of SCM and it is hoped to start an SCM group this Autumn.

If you would like to be on board from the start please contact the Chaplaincy Centre for more details.
